Memorial Gifts & Donations
Aldo Clagnaz, 81, passed away after a 2-year battle with cancer on May 19, 2020 at his home in Suffolk, VA surrounded by family. He was born in Pisino, Italy (now Croatia) to the late John and Cecilia Clagnaz. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosanna Clagnaz; children Daniela, Sandra, John and John’s wife Jessica; grandchildren Brianna, Kristen, Joe, and James; great-granddaughter Lyndsey; brother Gianni and Gianni’s wife Vanda. Aldo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a friend to everyone.
Aldo enjoyed sharing stories from his life in all three languages that he spoke fluently, -Italian, Croatian, and English. Despite his rough start to life growing up in an orphanage after the age of 10 when his father died, Aldo was determined to share his talents and love with the world. From deli worker, to airline-cargo agent, to family man, his laughter and smiles lit up any room. Aldo traveled the world with the merchant marines for 3 years until he landed in America at the age of 21, where he met his future bride. Together they raised their three beautiful children in Long Island, New York before moving to Suffolk, Virginia in 2002 to enjoy retirement. Becoming a father, grandfather and then a great-grandfather brought him the most joy and happiness in life.
Aside from his unyielding love for his family, Aldo is known for his wit and charm. His life was like a novel full of adventure and love. He touched many lives and his spirit will never be forgotten.
A memorial service is planned at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, 522 High St Portsmouth, VA 23704 on June 9th at 11am followed by an internment service at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd, Suffolk, VA 23435.

He looked so well when we visited in February, his smile was quick and eyes so bright, especially with the baby in his arms. He was such a charming and kind man … as a young teenager, I thought he was “dreamy” and, as I told him, I had a crush on him …those blue eyes and handsome Paul Newman looks! I choose to always remember Aldo this way, How blessed you are to have had him for husband, father, and grandfather, please know we are… Read more »
