Debra Saavedra- Turner, age 60 loving wife, adored mother and cherished grandmother, of Virginia Beach, was called home to the Lord’s house on Tuesday February 15, 2022 where she fought a courageous battle with brain cancer. Debra was born on January 16, 1962 in Bronx, New York. She was the sixth child of Carlos M. Saavedra and Milgros Saavedra. Despite being born in New York Debra, was raised in Deltona Florida. While navigating her life in Florida Debra had the pleasure to welcome two daughters into her life. Debra excepted Christ and continued her walk with him; and enjoyed serving her home church of First Baptist of Orlando where she grew to love theater, choir, and outreach ministry. She moved to Virginia Beach in 2004 where she worked as an accountant for Avis Budget Group for 18 years. While getting established in Virginia Beach, Debra was welcomed into a new church family at First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Where she then met and married her beloved husband Ralph in October of 2017; where they devoted their time to serving the Lord. Her passions were shopping, reading, traveling, watching movies with her beloved, she also enjoyed music, cooking, and decorating for the holidays. Debra had unwavering faith in God and a strong will to live, throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. She is preceded in death by; Grandparents Juanita Saavedra, Victor Hugo Saavedra, and Suncha Argote, Juan Argote; Brother Charles Saavedra, and Nephew Johnathan Viera. She leaves to cherish her memories, Parents Carlos M. Saavedra and Milgros Saavedra; Husband Ralph J. Turner; Eldest daughter Rachel L. Cortes and her husband Luis Cortes, and youngest daughter Shelby J. Perkins and her husband Scott Perkins; followed by her grandchildren Alyssia Cortes, Emmanuel Cortes, Gisselle Cortes. She will be greatly missed by her remaining siblings; Sister, Renee Melendez and her husband Sammuel; Brother, Michael Saavedra; Sister, Denise Clark and her husband Kevin; sister, Christina Torres and her husband Jose. She will also live in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Norfolk at 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk VA 23502 On Sunday March 6th from 1pm to 3pm.
The family request to honor the memory of Debra for all guest to wear shades of pink.
