Memorial Gifts & Donations

Eleanor B. Rusnock, 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on January 27, 2024. She was born in Kingston, PA to Eleanor and Joseph Buza. She was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Thomas Paul Rusnock, whom she married in 1951 while he was on leave from the army during the Korean War.
Eleanor proved herself to be strong and resilient as she endured many relocations which included Ithaca, N.Y. to support her husband as he completed his education at Cornell University and where they began their family having a son and daughter while there. Their family continued to grow with the addition of two more daughters and a son as they moved to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Omaha, Chicago, and finally Norfolk, VA. While there, they had fun residing in The Golden Triangle Hotel for six months before settling into their forever home in 1965 in Virginia Beach, VA. Eleanor was a devoted stay at home mother who relished her roles as a loving parent and homemaker.
After retiring from the hotel business, Tom and Eleanor operated a business at Portside in Portsmouth, VA. Eleanor calculated the number of hot dogs she sold to enable her to add an inground pool in their backyard. She said she did this to get her children to come back home frequently and it worked! After Portside closed, they operated snack bars at many of the local golf courses.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, loving husband, and youngest son, Thomas Rusnock. Surviving are her son, Joseph Rusnock, daughters Lee Ann Mandaleris (Sam), Susan Rusnock, and Nancy Hinson (Paul), granddaughters Lauren Rusnock, Elizabeth Rusnock, Stacie Mandaleris, and Anna Lee (James), and great grandchildren Bonnie, James, and Anabelle Lee.
The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers from Westminster Hospice.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on February 17, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at her home at 5233 Executive Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the death of your mother. I came to know all your family through my daughter Peggy who was friends with all of you, & your dad gave us summer jobs at his refreshment stands in Portsmouth— as well as invited us to your home to enjoy the pool & the fun that always seemed to be the norm at your house. My love to all of you.

I just adored your parents and Eleanor, what a firecracker she was. She and Tom were so much fun to visit and to just listen to their stories. I always had a good time when around them, and I know that they are happy together again. What a love story. Rest in Peace and take care of your babies still here on Earth.

So sorry for your loss. I knew your mom for many years through Aqua Leisure Pools. Both your parents were long time customers and I always looked for forward to seeing them year after year. She will be missed. May her memory bring you joy.
