Memorial Gifts & Donations

Glenda J. Smith,53, died February 24, 2020 while surrounded by her close family and friends. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Glenda was the daughter of Richard D. Jones and Ingrid Fox. Glenda graduated from Kempsville High School in 1984 and participated in FBLA, FHA, and Fashion Merchandising. She continued her education at Tidewater Community College and Von Lee International School of Beauty in Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard D. Jones and Ingrid Fox, Charles Fox (Stepfather), and her grandmother, Grace Thon of Canada. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Hubert D. Smith, Jr., her daughters, Alexis M. Smith and Cassie L. Smith, three sisters Yolanda Pfeifer and husband Mike of Virginia Beach, Denise Boyette and husband Mickey of Suffolk, and Paula Livernois and husband Craig of Chesapeake, her uncle Ralph Thon of Texas, and special cousins Karen and Eric, Aunt June and Jodi and Bobbi of Canada.

Growing up, Glenda took on many roles such as a nanny, a homemaker, and a beloved softball mom. She was known as the “baby meister” because of her love for kids and babysitting. She also thrived in fashion while working at Sidney’s Ladies Fashions on Laskin Road. Glenda loved watching her daughters play softball and the traveling that was involved. She looked to the softball community as a family and most knew her as the best cupcake mama. Glenda always dressed to impress even on the days of her chemo treatment. Her happiness really showed when she was surrounded by family and friends, planning events that brought people together, and when she was helping others. Glenda was able to check something off of her bucket list in early February when she took a trip to snowy Breckenridge, Colorado. Thanks to her cousin Karen and husband Ken, her sister Paula and husband Craig, and Glenda’s husband Hubert, for making this trip possible and fun. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Virginia Oncology Associates, nurse Caroline, and the staff at Sentara Hospice House for their patience, care, and friendship. Glenda loved everyone around her very deeply and was the light in every room. She will be truly missed.

Hubert,Lexi & Cassie,
I only got to meet Glenda a few times at family events. I found her to be a very sweet lady with a beautiful smile and a kind disposition. I pray that God’s love will give you strength now and for very step of the way as you join together to celebrate her life and all the memories you share amongst yourselves and all of her friends.

God bless,
wishing you all much peace.
