Windsor- The stars in the sky shown a little bit brighter this past Sunday, as the heavens welcomed a new soul. Linda Kay Winkler passed from this life to the next on September 25, 2022 at age 60 after a nearly ten year battle with cancer.
Linda was born the eldest of four to her mother Una. In and out of foster care, she built a habit of independence, humor, and caring for others. After marrying in 1988, she welcomed a daughter in December of 1991 to whom she devoted her best.
As a woman of faith, Linda was active in church and several ministries for many years. Hiz Handz Puppets ministry was particularly close to her heart.
In life, Linda was light and love. She wanted to give happiness, comfort, and a full belly to every person she met. She doted on her grandchildren and enjoyed plying them with sweets whenever she could. She enjoyed reading, trying new foods, telling stories, and the companionship of her friends.
Linda’s light continues on through those who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Kristina Brown, daughter-in-law, Kai, three grandchildren Joshua aka Blaze, Evey aka Rosie, and Callan, and her doggie, Chico. She is also survived by her sister, Pam Kegley (Guy), her brothers, Eddie Winkler (Mary), Kenny Winkler (Grace), Joey Gilbert (Angel), and sisters-in-law, Ruby Winkler and Carrie Yarber, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is proceeded in death by her mother, Una Winkler, foster mother, Maebell Gray, and brothers, James Gilbert and Fred Winkler.
Friends and family in the Hampton Roads area are welcome to attend a potluck celebration for Linda at Southside Baptist Church on Saturday, October 1 at 6pm. Family will be asked to gather in the springtime to spread her ashes in the Appalachian Mountains.
