Loved ones live on in our memories. Here’s how we remember Richard David Dillinger:
Known as Rick or Ricky to his friends, he was born and raised on Long Island, NY before moving to North Carolina and Virginia.
He graduated from Northport Sr. High School in 1968 and joined the US Navy where he proudly served two years as a Boiler Technician departing the service with an Honorable discharge in 1972. Life after the Navy began at the Northport VA Hospital as a Boiler Plant Operator. During the time he lived out east on Long Island, he was an EMT volunteer with the Bellport Ambulance Squad.
Ricky was many things. He was loyal, sincere, kind, and stubborn. Sporting a silver head of hair (like his dad) he loved riding on his scooter around the neighborhood getting caught up on what he may have missed. He was an “outdoor” guy for sure. When he wasn’t working around the house or looking up at the stars/planets through his many telescopes, he was baking bread or cooking huge meals. There was very little he couldn’t do and he passed that on to his two sons. A mover and a shaker as they say.
He had a heart larger than life (that’s probably why he had issues with it) especially for his family and closest friends. Anyone who knew Rick knew the love he had for his precious dog and constant companion, Nina. He tackled all obstacles with a positive, forward-thinking spirit.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents Virginia & Richard Dillinger, Leila Mae Kelton and sister Wendy Dillinger.
He lives on through his cherished sons, Eric and Bryant Dillinger, granddaughter Shannon as well as his siblings Glenn, Cindy (Jerry), Mike (Luciane), Buddy (Marjorie), Kathie (Joseph), Karen (Barry) and David (Michelle) as well as many other dear family members and friends.
