Chesapeake- Samuel Mills Downer went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2020. He was born on March 27, 1939 to the late John B. Downer and Jennie B. Downer in Cross Anchor, South Carolina. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years Carol Sanders- Downer, Brothers Ray Jasper Downer, J.B Downer, Sisters Mary Gruber, Ruby Manley, Betty Milliken, Dorothy Cox, and Joy Benton. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Yohe and her children, Ronnie, Jimmy and Tammy Yohe, brothers Rev. Thomas E Downer and John Paul Downer, sons Jonathan Downer, Kenneth Downer and Danny Downer ( Becky ), 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Samuel retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 26 1/2 years of service then went on to work for Channel Construction for over 10 years. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors who needed work done around their homes. He will also be missed by the numerous friends he made at the Hardees dances over the past 8 years.

We are so sorry for your loss. Sam was a very special man. He will always be remembered by me as being very dedicated and talented in all that he did. He was also blessed to have a great family .. it is also comforting to know that he was a child of God and is now in His loving arms.
may he be in a better place.always had good conversations with sam.knew him for years.
Sorry for your loss. Sam was a great guy. I worked with him for several years. He always had a great attitude towards life. We affectionately called him Poppa Smurf. He wore coveralls and a red cap. Perfectly trimmed white beard.
He will be missed ?
We will miss Sam at the CMA dances. He was a good Christian man and well liked by all. Ann and I send our condolences to his family
